It's the start of another school season. It is one of the times when kids and parents try their best effort to adjust. Not just with the routine but with the whole process. Today, the pandemic has indeed impacted us all, from the little ones up to us adults.
Today, and for those who have not adjusted yet, with the school season, I'll be sharing a few tips and tricks to help us, parents, adjust in dealing with the changes in the school season.
Before anything else, why do we need to adjust? According to the meanings provided by the internet, the term "adjust" is simply the moving or altering of one direction. Or to define from a business point of view, it is the process of adapting to the situation.
It is the best way to organize and maintain the flow of processes in our little community called home.
So, when adjusting or adapting, what do we need? There are plenty of things that we require to change. But all we need first is the commitment to do these tasks. If we agree and commit ourselves to do these jobs, we will have a better momentum in changing.
If we have conditioned ourselves to adjust, then it's time to do the change.
- When kids start to enjoy their activities (like playing video games or playing outside), they tend to get hooked, and when they get used to it, it's hard to get them off. So, as a Dad, here's my tip for parents, one month before school starts, begin to cut off the hours of their activities. You start by cutting 30 minutes of their playtime. Then you raise it gradually every week. By this, kids can adjust to their playtime and school time.
- Talk about waking up in the morning. During vacation, we let our kids enjoy their sleep time. That is to compensate for their effort of waking up early during school days. We can teach them to adjust by again gradually waking them up early. Conditioning is the key. So if they wake up at 8:00 AM, we can change it to 7:30 AM. Do this until their body is conditioned to waking up early.
- Setting up schedules is also another way of adjusting. By setting up your daily chores or activities, you and your kids will have a better adjustment. Of course, you need to post that schedule so that everyone in the house can see it.
If you want to get into the details of organizing your daily activities in the house, I happen to find this website where you can get materials and resources that can help you. Of course, you need to sign in first to have access to the materials.
