The Challenges of Work-From-Home and Online Classes

From campus to tablets, from office to laptops, these are the current situations of online classes and working from home.  With today's situation campuses and classrooms are not just the venue of learning, tablets, smartphones, and desktops are now the "in" thing of learning. The same goes with the usual office and workplace, bedrooms or study rooms became the alternative places to conduct an office-like environment. Both are now coping and managing!

The digital plane is easy but having both an online classroom and work from home setup at home does somehow have difficulties.  It looks easy, convenient, and simple, but in reality, it is challenging.

Here are some situations or realities faced by working from home and studying from home.

  • Working Dads and kids are sharing work and study on just one laptop. It is probably prominent for average families, like us, to own a single computing device, whether it is a desktop or a laptop. We need to share and set a schedule for using the gadget.
  • An event where both schedules of the work and online classes are at the same time and Dads are to adjust for the little ones. Sometimes Dads are opted to work on a night shift to accommodate the schedule.
  • "Dad, can I use the laptop for a while," but this sometimes goes more than just a while.
  • Unstable or lagging of internet connection caused by the number of connected devices. You would often hear the kids shout, "Dad, I got disconnected! Please connect it!"
  • There's also this one situation where both work and study need to decide what to submit first, online classroom assignment or weekly reports from Dads who's into Work from Home. I'm just glad that my online work doesn't require submitting weekly reports.
  • Another situation for creative working Dads is when you're at that best of your moment, and all of a sudden, kids will call you out to teach them how to edit the files they need to submit.
  • For parents like me, whose means of living is creating content, it's a bit difficult not to help your kids when they need your help. So, in my case, just let the school activities be the content itself. It's hard to move away from your planned activities and accommodate something instantly, but kids are the priority in the first place.
These are some of the many things faced and is facing by every family who opted to have the classroom and office set up in their houses.

As for me, I'm working during their break times and after their classes. Coordinating with their teacher also helps in scheduling meetings and work.  But sometimes it's really hard but you just have to cope with it!
