"Elmo Live for Maki"

Elmo Live and Alive!
Who in the world would not know Elmo?
The cute, cuddly, and sweet little red monster of Sesame Street is back. Not a mere stuff toy anymore but a truly life-like creation. Thanks to technology this little red monster can actually have a conversation as he opens and closes his mouth. Adding more to his talking is his mannerisms and gestures as he stands, sits, wave his hands and cross his legs while telling stories and jokes, singing songs and playing games. Kids can activate the magic with just a tickle or a squeeze of Elmo’s foot, tummy, back or nose. This little baby is approximately 12” in height and requires six (6) AA batteries.
Elmo live is surely alive!

I would love to get this for Maki. It cost $60. I wonder ... where will I get that much?

Just recently I opened my account in As usual browse for what’s new in the digital art community. Then I checked if they have a new contest. Well I’m in luck I found one. They’ve launched their CGS Challenge this time it’s entitled “Steampunk: Myths and Legends”. I suddenly posed and think for a while … ohm … steampunk! To tell it frankly I don’t the meaning of that word because I’ve never encountered that word. Steam and punk alone I’ve heard but fused together I really don’t know.

So with curiosity I typed steampunk at the google search box and then viola… found a lot of meaning.

Here’s one from Wikipedia – Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used-usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England-but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Steampunk is often associated with cyberpunk and shares a similar fanbase and theme of rebellion, but developed as a separate movement (though both have considerable influence on each other). Apart from time period and level of technological development, the main difference between cyberpunk and steampunk is that steampunk settings usually tend to be less obviously dystopian than cyberpunk, or lack dystopian elements entirely.

Whew! Have I slept and lost a decade of my life. Well one thing is for sure, I need to widen and broaden my readings and surfing of the net.

Anyway, I read all the details of the challenge, make myself familiar with this steampunk thing and lastly I found lots of ideas to fused and merged together for the subject I’m going to make. I hope I could deliver all the requirements in time. So pray for me!

"A Walk at the Park... Quezon Memorial Circle"

Last Saturday and Sunday we enjoyed the walk at the park. The morning breeze and sun. Maki is practicing his walk. And his starting to walk alone but of course with our guidance. He sometimes stumble and sometimes walks like a drunk person. Few more weeks and he'll be running.

Wondering how tall is the monument.

"Encounter with Earth’s Most Beautiful Lady"

I know this is kind of late but anyway it’s better late than never. Last July 24, 2008, I was able to have a chance to take a picture of today’s Earth’s most beautiful lady, Miss Earth Karla Paula Henry. It was the Tree Planting and Opening Ceremony of the Package 2 of SCTEx (where I work) and we were part of the organizing committee.

Holidays are coming and I'm sure most of us are saving those extra dimes to spent for gifts and other things that we need. Specially the gifts for the little ones who's looking forward for these season.

To buy this gifts we either shop at the mall or order it on TV shopping networks, which we don't get much of anything in return for buying something from them. Think of another way that will make shopping easier, fun, enjoyable and most of all provides something in return like earning opportunity or bonuses. So why not consider doing shopping online.

An online shop that offers great bargains and financial deals such as bank sign up bonuses, credit card cash back offers, 0% credit for purchases, and a whole lot more. You think its a dud? Think again... deal it on ExtraDime.

"First Time: Chopper Ride"

I know some of you had experienced riding a chopper but me... this is my first time. It was 31 October 2008 the day before All Saints Day, Col Pattaui asked if we want to come along and ride the helicopter. Of course, since the office declared half day then.

We went to Haribon at Clark Air Base where we will wait for the helicopter that will tour the SCTEx alignment.

At the station while waiting for the helicopter to arrived, I can really feel my heart pounding on that time. First because it was my first time to ride the helicopter and second the helicopter is a military chopper which we all know that most of them were aged already. So there I was mixed with excitement and fear.

While waiting for the ride....

It was around or past 4:00 pm when we boarded the helicopter. Since our main goal is to take pictures of the expressway and I have the camera, Col Pattaui instructed me to seat at the gunners side so I could take good shots of the expressway. That really add up the scare.

This is the ride ...

My seat ... THE GUNNER's SIDE

So up we go. It's really strange and scary because I'm thinking what if this and that. The sides were wide open and it was really a scare. But the scare were overtaken by the excitement and the thought of boasting "hey! I've ride a chopper, man it was so good and thrilling!"

Looking down from the chopper and seeing those cars, house and trees just like a miniature in a scale model really enjoys me a lot. It was like you're building your own world.

The ride is okay but what annoys me most is the noise of the propeller especially when there's wind it's like smashing a card board on the table. Anyway its still great to ride a chopper.

We've had two rides of the chopper on and off. The fear were relieved and the thrill took over. The flight started from Clark Airbase to Subic and back then the other flight started from Clark Airbase to Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac and back.

The pilots... they sure took good care of us. Thanks to them I was able to write this.

A salute to all Filipino Pilots.

"Maki's Fever shoots to 39-40 degrees celsius"

After celebrating Maki's birthday, Maki started feeling irritated and not in the mood and later on started having fever.

Saturday night his went up to 39 degrees Celsius. We did everything that we could to lower down his fever. Put wet towel on his forehead, give medicine, and even suppository just to lower down his fever. It was dawn when his fever lower down to 37.5 degrees Celsius. But still, his not feeling well.

The whole Sunday was not that joyful and giggly because Maki still not well enough. We thought he was going to be alright then. It was 7:00 pm when my wife check on Maki. He was hot. We check his temperature it was 39 degrees Celsius. We thought the thermometer was broke so we bought a new one and still the same. Like what we did the night before, medicine and wet towel. My mother and mother-in-law helped us just to lower down Maki's fever.

The worst . . . his temperature shoot to 40 degrees Celsius. We tried to contact his pedia but we couldn't contact her. So just to lessen the fever we take turns in damping towel to Maki and on his forehead.

It was dawn when we contacted his doctor she was in a convention in Palawan, she just gave instruction and what to do.

Morning we went to the doctor for check up and he was given some medicines and the doctor instructed to go to the laboratory for test to make sure. So we got to the laboratory and finished the test. Took it the doctor and thank God it was okay. The doctor just instructed us for the medicines.

I took a day off to take of Maki.

On the following day I went to work. My wife texted me that Maki's measles just came out. So that's the reason of his high fever.

"Maki on the Newspaper"

Maki on the newspaper! Isn't it great! Well, it was a portion in the Manila Bulletin about moms and babies. I sent Maki's picture together with information about him like his birthday, etc. and hoping to win some gift certificates. But just to see Maki on the newspaper is just something that parents would boast.

"Part 2 of Maki's Birthday Celebration"

It was Saturday, the continuation of Maki's Birthday Celebration but this time at Shakeys, Ever Commonwealth most of his guests are his Ninong and Ninangs (Godfathers and Godmothers) and some of the kids.

The guests (Ninongs, Ninangs, and others) arrived past 4:00 pm but the celebration started 5:00 pm because Maki is not feeling well.

The host started the party and enjoined everyone to sing a birthday song for Maki as he celebrate his first birthday.

Captain Shakeys appeared and greeted Maki. Altogether with Captain Shakeys we had our picture taken.

The party ended at about 7:00 pm with greetings from Maki's Ninong, Ninang, Tito, Tita, and friends.

"Part 1 of Maki's Birthday Celebration"

Friday morning, when we woke up Maki was in a very bad mood. Angie and I don't know what was wrong. It was Maki's first birthday. Anyway we went with our preparation for Maki's birthday but Angie still have to go to work because her boss did not allowed her go on leave.

Maki, still in a bad mood and started feeling unwell. It was around 3:30 pm, we dressed up Maki for his birthday party and kids started coming.

We started the Children's Party past 4:00 pm. I hosted my son's birthday party. We sung a birthday song to Maki and had fun playing with the games I prepared. The kids enjoyed and were so happy with the party. When Maki was about to do the blowing of the candles my wife Angie arrived from work and joined with us.

The kids who joined the party numbered at almost 70. Maki still enjoyed the party though he was feeling unwell.
