Daddy Day Care: Sunday As Well

I have always posted my Daddy Day Care duties during Saturdays but due to blogging events and other matters most of them were not posted immediately. Actually it seems that I'll be adding Sunday as well on my Daddy Day Care list of activities err not because my wife will be resigning from work and perhaps will be a full time mom to our kids and of course as a full time wife as well.  Hehehe!  (A not so evil laugh but quite a naughty laugh.)

Which ever day it is, for sure I will always have time to spent with my kids.  Play around, tag and tickle them, play with them on the computer, teach them or watch movie or TV together.

Unfortunately, some of my schedule activities and post for this blog has been taken over by other stuff, so as a result this made this blog less active on the blogging circulation.  I'm not sure if I will be able to put it back on the track but I will try and for the benefit of my readers I will put more good parenting article in it.

Let's all enjoy and learn together in this journey called life!

Seven Simple Ways to Help Your Child Learn to Read

Reading ability is the most important predictor of academic success. If your child struggles in reading, they will likely struggle in school for a long time. It is not necessary to rush out and hire a reading tutor for your kindergartner, though. Here are seven simple ways you can help your child read better. All it costs is your time and dedication.

1. Read everywhere
You do not have to have a designated cozy reading chair by the fire. Read everywhere. Read a book to your children as they eat their breakfast. Have them read the back of the cereal box. Put some books in the car and have your older child read to the younger one as you drive. Keep a book in your purse for when you are stuck in a waiting room. Encourage your children to keep a book in their backpack and read when they are stuck with nothing to do.

2. Read everything
You do not need a bookshelf full of award-winning children’s literature. Read everything. Find an article in the newspaper and read it with your child. The sports section often has interesting short articles about relatively uncomplicated subjects. Does your child like animals? Look up their favorite on the internet and read about it. Is your child intimidated by large blocks of text? Let your child read the picture captions, and you can summarize the text.

Next, check out your local library. They will have the award-winning children’s literature, as well books about your children’s favorite television character, the latest teen vampire series, and graphic novels. Library cards are generally free, or available for a nominal fee. Let your child pick out some books. Don’t worry about whether they are on your child’s reading level or not. You just want them reading, and you can always help out.

3. Read Yourself
While at the library, pick up a book for yourself. Model the behavior you want your child to emulate. Telling your child how wonderful books are while parked in front of the television every night watching reality shows is hypocritical, and your child will know it. Even if you can put it past them, you should still try to set a good example. Your children are more likely to read if it seems like a common or cool thing to do, and they’re not stuck in their room while you’re downstairs in front of the TV.

4. Read to your Child
Read to your child, even after they can read to themselves. A book too difficult for them to read on their own can be a wonderful shared experience. Reading a chapter a night before bed is a great routine. This way, even if things get busy, your child will likely remember the joy you two shared reading together down the road.

5. Read for meaning
Stop occasionally while reading and ask your child to predict what will happen next. Or ask them what they would do in the character’s situation. Look at the pictures in a picture book. A good picture book will use the illustrations to further the story beyond the text. Many times the pictures may deliberately conflict with the text. This is your child’s introduction to irony, so make the most of it. These interactions will help to develop analytical and comprehension skills, which are just as important as the ability to read.

6. Read Your Child’s Work
Let your child tell you a story as you write it down, and if you can get them to illustrate it, so much the better. Staple it together in book form and read it together. Let your child read it to a sibling or grandparent. Even children too young to really read can hold their book and tell their story. Again, this is a compound exercise. You’re not only reinforcing the ability to read, you’re also now encouraging your child to be creative.

7. Read Every Day
This is the number one way to increase your child’s reading level. If you do nothing else, just reading 20 minutes a day with your child will be enormously beneficial. If your child is too wiggly to sit still for 20 minutes, break it up into smaller sessions. For older kids, trade 20 minutes of television or video games for 20 minutes of reading. As in anything else, practice makes perfect. Don’t forget that this doesn’t mean you should just tell your child to read for your 20 minutes and then go off to your business. Actively engage with your child. You get what you put in, and nowhere is this more true than with your son or daughter’s education.

Friday Toys: Long Arm Plush Toy

Hahaha!  Found this long arm plush toy on Toys R Us and  when I saw this one I instantly remember Maki's plush toy.  I they are almost the same except of course with the design.  Oh I forgot Maki's toy is different because it makes a monkey sounds.

What's great about this plush toy is that kids can actually hang them on their neck and makes it look like these plush toys are clinging on your kids.

The plush toy shown above are sold at Toys R Us for about Php299.75.  Quite expensive for someone who's saving a lot for their kids so here's a tip, visit the Manila Zoo and you'll find one and that's where Maki gets his Monkey Long Arm Plush toy.

Groove That Lawn with Scotts Snap Spreader System

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts® for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

For me, having a house with a lawn is really great and nice to look at.  Lawn is like a balancer and illuminator for the look of the house.  They make it more jolly and fun and besides its better to be greener and environmental.  Well, that’s my dream house!

Few houses in the city do have their lawns and unfortunately we’re not one of those few.  As much as possible the houses are built to occupy bigger space and less on greener looks.  That’s city living!

Still, we’re fortunate to have relatives in the province where we can spend some time, most importantly, during summer vacation and gladly they do have lawns where kids can roll and play anytime.  But of course that happens only at the time where the lawns, trees, and everything around are much greener.

Yes, lawns do need to be taken care of to be greener than their usual healthy look.  They need to be feed up with nutrients, fertilizers and other things that they need but doing it manually will take some time to finish, especially if you have a very big area.  Gladly, there’s Scotts® Snap® Spreader System to help lawn owners and keepers get their tasks done as quickly as possible.  The snap spreader system makes it easier to feed the grass with fertilizers evenly and it is mess-free.

So, how does this works?  Well, Scotts Snap Spreader System is exclusively for use of Scotts Snap Pac.  It has an EdgeGuard Feature that directs the product only where it is needed, on the lawn.

  1. The Snap-Pac connects directly to the Snap Spreader.
  2. After connecting the Snap-Pac to the spreader, flip the lever to lock Snap-Pac into place.
  3. The Snap-Pac automatically sets the proper application rate so that the lawn will get the just amount it needs to thrive.
  4. When done feeding, the Snap-Pac self-seals upon removal for easy cleanup and storage.

Pretty much simple and easy to use and store!  So if you’re planning to get that lawn in the groove for the summer just get yourself a Scotts Snap-Pacs and Snap Spreader System.

If you want to know more about the product simply visit Scotts Snap Spreader System or you might as well visit their page for that Snap perks on Facebook and also for some of the promotions and contests as well.

SM City Sta. Mesa Payday Sale

Weekend and payday sale has always been looked forward by many people. It is the time where we spot and hunt for something great to wear but a little friendlier with our pockets. It should be because most of the commodities nowadays are getting higher and higher. Being wise of spending is what we need and what we should do.

March 30, 31 and April 1 was the best time for SM City Sta. Mesa to have its sale, aside from the fact that it was a payday, it was also the best time to promote and encourage people to join and participate the cal of saving the environment with the WWF's Earth Hour.

If celebrities does their mall tour, Maki and I did our mall tour as well. As in a mall tour! We went to three different SM City Malls and the first on our is the SM City Sta. Mesa. This is to make Maki get over with the dizziness when traveling and of course as part of our blogging as well.

Good thing that we arrived in the mall before it rains. The rain was really hard and I think it went for quite some time, so the stay inside the mall took longer than we are supposed to be.

Maki met Jollibee just in entrance of the mall and made a picture with him. Gladly, Maki wasn't scared with this mascot. We went to the cinemas and look for some upcoming movies and Maki take some time having pictures with the Avengers poster. Maki also take some time in the children's bag area and was hoping for me to buy him a new school bag. I just told him that we're not yet scheduled to buy a new bag. Then we went to the food court area and bought something to drink. Maki asked for a juice that he saw. It was a Calamansi Juice! I was amazed that he liked it very much.

SM City Sta. Mesa is not that big but it sure provide different items for their mall goers. From shoes to bags and from clothes to appliances. I think when I were in college I used to get some materials here to fill in for my projects. Though there were some areas that are being renovated still they were able to give convenience to their patronizers. Not really sure of what were those renovations but I'm sure they are cooking something good for mall goers. Hmm perhaps will try to get updates with that one or readers may guess as well on what will they be putting up on that area. Waah... I forgot which floor is that! Well I just write it down again when I visited the mall again, hopefully soon.

When the rain calms down we head on to our next tour!

Ablazing The Flickering Light

This holy week my family just stayed in the house and just did a little stroll in the park. It was a free day to do things and free day to talk to God. Yup! It is just one of those blessed day that we are given a chance to communicate with God. It is the time to have a reflection of our life and our accomplishments as a believer.

I could say that I'm not a great motivator when it comes to leading the pack of baby Christians. I'm not a good example, for now. I'm still in the very shadow that covers the light of Christ in me. I wanted that light to break free and be a guide to others just like what Jesus Christ did when he laid his life on the cross.

So by this simple post and my constant updating of the daily bible verse I want to start that flame flickering light to ignite and set my Christian life ablaze more than ever.

Since this is the last day of the holy week I just want to ask people of certain things like this...

What flicks into your mind when you see the cross? Perhaps, most of us would still see the Christ nailed to that cross and bleeding to death.

Every year, holy weeks comes and it is being celebrated as if we lost somebody. Is that the real reason why we Christians celebrate holy week? I think it shouldn't be because that cross is not a reminder of Christ's suffering but it should be a reminder of Christ's love for us, because of that love that He laid his life on that cross to save our sins. An unconditional love.

So for me that cross is a celebration of love, a lively celebration! We can seriously celebrate that love by shouting and rejoicing to God.

Family Getaways With Kia Rio and Spotify's Best Songs with your Windows Down

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Kia Rio for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Family outings are sure fun and since it’s already high time for summer, vacation plans are already set on the go.  Most trips are long and kids would definitely enjoy that travel if it comes with some cool music in it.  Of course you’ll need a good a comfortable car that will suit with the beat of summer.  Since technology has got smaller it’s much easier to carry along gadgets with a long list of music.

For car owners, specifically Kia Rio here’s a great way to enjoy the family get-together, Kia Rio and Spotify partnered to develop the "Best Songs with your Windows Down" playlist.  Enjoy that feeling of riding with your windows down.  With this application users can definitely have a great time listening and contributing their own list of songs.  Users can enjoy other list of songs as well and they can even share it with their friends.

Are you thinking how this work?  Well, first visit this link . It’s on facebook, so I do hope that you have your account on facebook so you could access this one.  Once you are in the page, you can choose their favorite song by clicking the “view playlist”.  You can see in that list which songs are already been submitted.  Like for me I choose Bob Marley’s song “Is This Love”, I like reggae songs and I think my son well sure love it also.  This can really make the summer cooler than ever.   Then after choosing your song you should enter your name and email address and then click submit!  Check out the image above

Since Kia Rio has partnered with Spotify you need to download the Spotify application to your computer or to any of your devices.  When the application tries to launch be sure to choose the “Spotify” application.  View the list of great songs and you’re down to having a great playlist through Spotify.  You’ll definitely enjoy listening to that music while riding with your windows down.

Get your song lists now and start submitting!  You can also recommend those songs here and tell me why you pick it.  Oh by the way, just reminders there are countries that spotify are not yet available.  Just check their site once you download the application.

Not really sure if they do have some songs for the little ones but perhaps it would be great if they have something for the kids.

So if you’re planning to have your new car better get the new Kia car selection because they this UVO which was developed by Microsoft and Kia. It is an in-car infotainment system with advanced voice and touch activated features. UVO is simply short for “Your Voice” that provides simple and quick access to vehicle’s multimedia and infotainment system. Just make sure the kids won’t play much with it.

Earth Hour 2012

This is the first time that we did the Earth Hour in a mall.  My wife got an invite from one of the malls in the metro and was invited to cover the said event.  Gladly, we accepted it and made it to the event since it is about the Earth Hour and it's about saving Mother Earth.  Even though we weren't invited we would still do it in our house and I find it more solemn to do it with your family.

They made a program for the audience and also made a simple ceremony by counting down before they turn off the light in which I don't really appreciate it much because it's like having a white turning into gray rather than white turning to black.  Well perhaps my notion of the Earth Hour is quite different.

Though I'm a supporter of Earth Hour, I'm not a big fan of their campaign this year.  Sorry for everyone but this is my opinion and this is what I thought of it.  The I WILL if YOU WILL campaign actually not a good call.  You will do things because there's a condition, then what happens if the condition has not met?  What will happen to the call?  It only proves that we're not really concerns.

Other environmental organization does their call without the condition.  Most of them are volunteers and they do their tasks and work wholeheartedly because they want to make a change and saving the environment is the change that they want.  How do people reacts if they saw a person throws a piece of candy wrapper on the street?  Well, I'm pretty much sure there are none but if you're really concerned with the environment a simple explanation and information to the person will do so that next time they won't do that, hopefully.

Perhaps next year the WWF who initiated the Earth Hour will have the campaign I WILL! No conditions just a plain expression of support and concern with the environment.
